About The Position

Serving pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, Donoghue is the second public elementary campus of the University of Chicago Charter School Corporation. Donoghue, which opened in 2005, is a college preparatory campus committed to professional development, inquiry, and high expectations for all staff and students. Donoghue serves as a catalyst for community building by offering programs for students and families beyond the school day. The Fourth Grade ELA teacher will deliver high-quality Tier 1 instruction aligned to state standards, utilize assessment data to drive instructional decisions, implement differentiated small-group instruction, and collaborate with colleagues through the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to accelerate student achievement. The position will work with the Campus Director, Instructional Coaches, and colleagues to implement the school’s curriculum. The teacher is expected to foster a positive classroom culture that promotes academic excellence, critical thinking, collaboration, and a lifelong love of reading and writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education required
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement.
  • At least 2 years of urban teaching experience in related field.
  • Reflective and receptive to professional feedback and coaching.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to the success and achievement of all students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging curriculum-aligned lessons using diverse, research-based teaching strategies.
  • Analyze and use formative assessment data to improve instruction and design assessments using the learning standards of the University of Chicago Charter School.
  • Work with students individually to address learning gaps, special needs, or behavioral challenges.
  • Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic development.
  • Create a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment for all students.
  • Enable students to contribute to the community through the creation of new knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.
