About The Position

Operates or assists in the operation of vacuum furnaces which includes furnace set-up, loading molds, carrying metal charges and removing ceramic shell material from castings. This role involves monitoring furnace operations, maintaining records, troubleshooting issues, and performing cleaning tasks. Additionally, it includes assisting with mold and metal handling, preparing molds for casting, removing ceramic shell material, and wrapping molds with insulating material. The position requires adherence to safety procedures and the ability to work overtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least one year of manufacturing experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate production information both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to complete required production reports and SPC charts.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several airfoil casting variables in standardized situations.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Ability to work weekday and weekend overtime.
  • Must frequently lift up to 50 pounds without lift assist. Lifting above 50 pounds will require the use of lift assist or help.
  • Specific vision abilities required include ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vacuum furnace, including setup and loading of molds (up to 110 lbs, with lift assistance for over 50 lbs).
  • Loads metal charges (over 90 lbs, with lift assistance for over 50 lbs).
  • Monitors and adjusts temperature, flow, power, and pressure gauges to meet process specifications.
  • Charts results on control charts and fills out heat logs.
  • Troubleshoots process variations and notifies foreman or process engineering.
  • Manually cleans the vacuum furnace at intervals.
  • Assists the furnace operator in loading and unloading molds (up to 110 lbs, with lift assistance for over 50 lbs) while wearing protective clothing.
  • Carries molds with molten metal and places them on cooling carts.
  • Sets up molds and operates preheat furnace to ensure correct temperature and preparation for casting.
  • Removes ceramic shell material from metal castings manually with a hammer or mechanically.
  • Cuts and wraps molds with heat insulating material (kaowool blanket) prior to mold pouring.
  • Cuts and measures heat-insulating material and applies it to the mold using adhesive.
  • Lifts molds up to 50 lbs or greater than 50 lbs with lift assistance from mold cart to wrap table and vice versa.
  • Ensures all wrap is placed on the mold per procedure.
