Requirements

Basic Reading Skills (must be able to read and interpret 1st piece inspection)

Mechanical mindset and/or at least 2 years of experience operating industrial machinery.

Responsibilities

Operates industrial shredder to process lead-acid batteries for recycling.
Drives forklift, pallet truck, or stack truck to remove batteries from trailers or storage areas and load into industrial shredder.
Maintains a proper flow of material through the battery breaking area by overseeing equipment.
Operates an industrial furnace to melt down metal scraps for recycling.
Operates and monitors automated weighing system to ensure that the proper weights of materials are delivered to the furnace.
Monitors hydraulic levels, operating temperatures, ventilation, flow rate, and other equipment and system parameters via operating panels and computer supervision system.
Opens lead well to tap lead from furnace into kettles.
Measures height of lead in kettles and diverts flow to other kettles when full.
Uses forklift to move molds once cooled.
Receives lead from furnaces and fills kettles with lead bullion.
Refines bullion into a variety of new lead alloys.
Calculates additive and reagent amounts necessary to add to the lead.
Learns how to operate lead analysis equipment to determine lead quality.
Removes dross from kettles as necessary to remove impurities prior to next refining process.
Utilizes overhead cranes and forklifts frequently.
Maintains an accurate log of all work done to each lot.
Regulates temperature of the metal according to thermometer readings and sets burner controls appropriately.
Controls flow of molten lead into molds.
Monitors temperature of lead and adjusts as necessary.
Installs and changes stamps identifying ingot lot number.
Performs visual quality checks on ingots and cleans off any flashing.
Utilize forklift to move finished ingots into storage area before they are sent back to the on site battery production facilities for use in new batteries.
Operates melting pots and oxide mills to make lead oxide used in battery production process.
Loads lead ingots into melting pots using a forklift.
Monitors and operates reaction pots by watching control panel, recording temperatures and draft readings, and visually inspecting.
Oxide transported to battery production facilities using blower system or tractor trailers.
Specific responsibilities will vary depending on job placement.
