About The Position

Under general supervision, this role involves melting various alloys in preparation for pouring into molds according to quality standards. The operator ensures documentation and molds are correctly matched to alloy and paperwork, preheats shell molds to the proper temperature, and places them in a sand bed to receive molten alloy as specified. The position requires adherence to established housekeeping and safety practices, following set process control procedures for melting and deoxidizing, and regulating burnout furnace and molten metal temperatures. The operator will follow a schedule of molds to be cast, check alloys with a spectrograph for proper identification, and pour test material molds as required. This role also assists with maintaining an accurate metal inventory and requires proficiency in the on-line computer system for assigned tasks. Additionally, the operator must be skilled in relining and maintaining melting furnaces, including replacing and repairing coil grouting, and exhibit good judgment regarding the lifespan of furnace linings. Understanding the basic workings and correct operation of the inductotherm water pumping system, demonstrating calmness and good judgment under adverse conditions, and knowing proper emergency procedures are crucial. The role also involves ensuring proper identification and storage of metal alloys, revert metals, spills, and skulls, as well as demonstrating knowledge of start-up and shut-down procedures for mold burn-out ovens and their safety aspects. Accurate record-keeping, knowledge of deoxidizing practices, and precise control of melt temperature are essential. The operator will pour representative test material for air melt alloys and inspect shell molds for surface distortions and imperfections. All other assigned duties will also be performed.

Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, read, follow and interpret instructions on technique cards, code sheets as well as other verbal or written instructions.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Ability to use simple to moderately complex measuring devices and fixtures.
Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Proficiently uses the on-line computer system as required in the job and identified in their procedures to perform assigned tasks.
Demonstrates skillfulness in relining and general maintenance of the melting furnaces.
Replaces and repairs the coil grouting of any of the induction furnaces.
Exhibits good judgment in determining the end of the work life of the furnace linings.
Understands the basic workings of the inductotherm water pumping system and demonstrates the correct operation of the cooling pumps under all circumstances.
Demonstrates calmness and good judgment under adverse conditions.
Shows knowledge of proper courses or action in varied emergency situations, real or hypothetical.
Ensures at all times that metal alloys, revert metals, spills and skulls are identified and stored as required.
Demonstrates knowledge of start-up and shut down procedures for the mold burn-out ovens.
Knows all related safety aspects of the burn-out ovens.
Clearly and in proper detail, performs all the record keeping duties assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of deoxidizing practices.
Correctly and accurately maintains control of melt temperature.
Pours representative test material for air melt alloys.
Inspects shell molds for surface distortion and imperfections such as air traps, dirt inside mold, cracks, breaks, excess flash, and porous condition.
Performs all other duties assigned.
