About The Position

Emerson is seeking a Melt/Molding Supervisor for their 1st shift operations at the Appleton Foundry in South Milwaukee, WI. This role is responsible for improving and overseeing 1st shift operations, personnel, and department safety to ensure the on-time shipment of quality castings. The supervisor will monitor department costs, quality methods, requirements, and the effective use of production hours, labor skills, and furnaces. Participation in planning and staffing requirements is also expected.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of foundry supervisory experience or four (4) years of foundry experience
  • A high school diploma is required
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends to support production

Nice To Haves

  • Foundry supervision experience is preferred
  • Induction melting is preferred
  • Coreless induction furnaces, DISA Vertical molding, and Isocure core making
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a foundry preferred
  • Some college and/or additional training/Metallurgy preferred

Responsibilities

  • Direct, train, and maintain the repair of furnaces, ladles, and pouring spouts, using refractory, ensuring that these components operate efficiently and safely, helping to prevent heat loss, corrosion, and damage.
  • Manage a team of skilled technicians, coordinating the installation and maintenance of high-performance refractory materials used in a variety of Melt Shop applications, utilizing union employees and outside contractors.
  • Maintain production to achieve company goals within acceptable scrap levels.
  • Maintain and enforce the safety program for the production department; review safety records to uphold company policies to ensure a safe environment for all employees.
  • Be accountable for the melt department, relating to departmental costs, quality, equipment efficiency, and quantity of production.
  • Spend the majority of time working in the department during production to exercise firsthand direction and control of activities and ensure company policies are followed.
  • Assist management in general foundry problems, including quality issues and capital expenditures for the department.
  • Ensure and audit 5S+1 policies in the department.
  • Provide leadership and administer company rules, regulations, union rules, and policies.
  • Assume responsibility and exercise means to direct, coordinate, train, and supervise all Melt Department operations across all shifts.
