About The Position

Terminal is seeking a Founding Technical Recruiter to establish and lead the company's technical hiring initiatives. This senior role is ideal for an experienced recruiter who has a proven track record of attracting top technical talent in competitive markets and desires a significant impact on company growth. The primary focus will be on maintaining and elevating the talent density as Terminal scales. The company specializes in telematics data infrastructure for the commercial fleet industry, processing vast amounts of vehicle data daily. This role reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the CTO and technical leads, with a priority on data platform engineering roles. The successful candidate will be responsible for building the recruiting system that future hiring partners will inherit.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of recruiting experience, with at least two years owning full-cycle recruiting at an early-stage startup.
  • Proven success closing senior and staff engineers in competitive markets, including managing competing offers and compensation discussions involving early-stage equity.
  • Ability to source technically, understanding the nuances of technical profiles and conducting credible conversations with senior engineers about their systems.
  • Strong pipeline management skills, with a data-driven approach to forecasting and tracking funnel metrics.
  • Experience as a company builder with insights into team development and a desire to influence hiring strategy.
  • Comfort working independently in a dynamic, changing environment without a dedicated coordination team.
  • Strong writing skills for initial candidate outreach.
  • Proficiency with AI tools in personal workflow for sourcing, screening, and scheduling.
  • Must be based in Toronto/GTA.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical recruiting end-to-end, including sourcing, screening, scheduling, references, offers, and closing for engineering, data, and other technical roles, with a priority on data platform engineering.
  • Build and maintain a live map of Toronto engineers to ensure searches begin with a strong candidate pool.
  • Conduct outbound recruiting and craft compelling candidate messaging that reflects Terminal's high standards.
  • Protect the technical bar by calibrating with the CTO and technical leads, building interview loops, scorecards, and debrief practices to ensure consistent evaluation.
  • Close senior and staff engineers, including managing compensation discussions involving early-stage equity.
  • Review new hires at key intervals (90 days, 6 months, 12 months) to assess against the set bar and provide feedback to the hiring process.
  • Manage the hiring operating system, including utilizing Ashby, tracking key metrics, and protecting interviewer hours.
  • Partner with leadership on headcount planning, role design, offer calibration, and strategic hiring decisions.
  • Contribute to the employer brand by sharing stories of Terminal's engineering culture and identifying target audiences for marketing and operations.
