Founding Product Engineer

AgentMail•San Francisco, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

AgentMail is building the communication infrastructure for AI agents. Today, AI agents can write code, browse the internet, and take actions on behalf of people—but they still struggle to communicate and operate independently across the services humans use every day. AgentMail gives agents their own email identities and infrastructure to send, receive, and act on email programmatically. We’ve processed hundreds of millions of emails and serve developers building some of the most ambitious agentic products. We’re looking for a Founding Product Engineer to help define what using AgentMail actually feels like.

Requirements

  • Exceptional frontend engineering skills with strong product and design instincts.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, comfortable working with APIs, backend systems, databases, queues, and distributed systems.
  • Ability to take a vague problem and turn it into a product without a detailed spec.
  • Enjoy talking to customers and discerning underlying problems from stated requests.
  • Ability to contextualize technical decisions with customer and business impact.
  • Care about API design and developer experience.
  • Strong opinions about products, but willing to change them based on evidence.
  • Comfortable moving quickly, shipping imperfect things, learning from usage, and iterating.
  • Extremely high agency; instinct to fix what is broken or missing.
  • Proven track record of building things people love and independently going from customer problem → idea → product → shipped software → learning.

Responsibilities

  • Own products from an ambiguous customer problem to something developers use every day.
  • Build products end-to-end, working across frontend experiences, APIs, backend services, data models, and infrastructure.
  • Talk directly to customers, interviewing developers, observing their usage, and analyzing support conversations and data.
  • Turn customer problems into products, determining what should be built and prioritizing problems worth solving.
  • Help create the interface developers use to understand, debug, and interact with their agents’ email (AgentMail Studio).
  • Shape the developer experience, including onboarding, SDKs, APIs, debugging tools, documentation, and the console.
  • Prototype quickly, turning ideas into usable products within days.
  • Focus on the details of product design and interaction patterns.
  • Help define the product engineering culture as one of the earliest engineers focused on product.
