Founding Machine Learning Engineer, Prediction & Planning

Greenlight Robotics•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Greenlight Robotics is building public transit technology and hiring its first core team of engineers to deliver the initial production version of its system to early transit customers. The Founding Machine Learning Engineer will build prediction and planning models for the product and own model training, validation, dataset curation, and deployment for vehicle intelligence technologies. Reporting directly to the Co-founder & CTO, this hands-on role works alongside the founders on major components of a complex, field-deployed system. The role includes deploying and field-testing software on prototype and customer vehicles, building a scalable machine-learning pipeline, improving model performance, and helping shape the technical roadmap. Up to 10% travel is required.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of demonstrated experience creating machine-learning models for vehicle automation or vehicle-intelligence applications, such as trajectory prediction or path planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, maintain, and iterate on complex software architectures.
  • Ability to write and evaluate high-quality C++ and Python code using AI tools.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 years of demonstrated experience shipping machine-learning models for automotive applications.
  • Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or a similar field, focused on implementing AI, ML, reinforcement learning, or deep learning in the physical world.
  • Hands-on experience with other parts of a robotics stack.
  • Previous experience at an early-stage startup, from Pre-seed through Series B.

Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of prediction and planning models, including training, validation, and dataset curation.
  • Deploy and field-test new software on the prototype vehicle and customer vehicles.
  • Build a robust, scalable data ingest, training, and validation pipeline to continuously improve AI models.
  • Build models intended to outperform human capability and prevent incidents a human could not.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks across software components and help prioritize technical features and improvements.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and founding engineer equity package.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, and commuter benefits.
