Founding Infrastructure Engineer

Civic Roundtable
$160,000 - $230,000Remote

About The Position

Civic Roundtable is a government operations platform that helps public servants coordinate across dozens of organizations that often struggle to coordinate and act in real time. We give wide networks of agencies and partner organizations the tools to consolidate information, coordinate mission-critical work, and move faster together so the people on the frontlines of public problems have what they need to serve their communities. We're looking for a founding infrastructure engineer to own our cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, security, and compliance. As our first and only platform hire, your goal will be to enable engineers to move fast with confidence, while meeting the high standards of government technology. This role will report to and work closely with our Head of Engineering.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, platform, or security engineering roles
  • High confidence with AWS, Terraform, and Github Actions
  • Familiarity with security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, FedRAMP, NIST, CJIS, HIPAA, or similar)
  • Fluency with AI dev tools, both for your own IaC and to enable product engineers
  • Prefer autonomy (and the ambiguity that comes with it) to explicit direction
  • Notice broken systems and instinctively want to improve them
  • Write exceptionally well and communicate clearly under pressure
  • Can independently own multiple priorities and know when to loop others in
  • Thrive in early-stage environments where the job changes week-to-week
  • Care about making government work better for the people it serves

Responsibilities

  • Own platform & infrastructure – AWS GovCloud, Terraform codebase, reliability, performance, and cost
  • Own developer tooling – CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions), local dev environment setup, and AI-enablement across the team
  • Own security & compliance – SOC 2 audits, NIST alignment, pen test coordination, access reviews, policy maintenance, and pursuit of additional authorizations
  • Own internal IT – the lightweight day-to-day (password resets, device issues) that keeps the team unblocked
  • Support technical pre-sales – occasional prospect calls and security questionnaires, partnering with our go-to-market team
  • Support technical services – ad hoc support for customer requests like SSO or DNS setup, partnering with our deployments team
  • Support product engineering – infrastructure and scaling input for new product surfaces, partnering with our product managers and engineering leads

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity
  • Health benefits
  • Flexible work arrangements
