About The Position

Synthetic is building software to simplify the financial operations of software businesses. Currently, these businesses struggle with managing contracts, billing, payments, and accounting, often relying on a combination of QuickBooks, Stripe, spreadsheets, and manual workflows. Synthetic offers a comprehensive, rebuilt solution that handles the entire financial process from start to finish. The platform integrates contracts, accounting, billing, invoicing, and payments, enhanced by AI agents for automating routine tasks. This approach ensures accurate financial data because Synthetic controls all systems involved. The company has recently secured $10 million in funding from investors such as Khosla Ventures and Tobi Lütke. Synthetic is committed to building a successful company and operates in-person in its San Francisco office six days a week, with flexibility in working hours.

Requirements

A CPA.
Controller experience at a software company.
Experience running real SaaS books.
Fluency in ASC 606, billing, invoicing, and accrual bookkeeping for software businesses.
Proven ability to build strong client relationships.
Experience with 'vibe coding' (demonstrable coding projects).

Responsibilities

Act as the first dedicated accounting hire, fulfilling a multi-faceted role including customer service, AI quality control, process building, and product research.
Ensure customer financial operations run smoothly and prevent issues from arising during rapid system changes.
Bridge the gap between customers and the system when explanations are unclear or fixes are needed.
Handle manual processes, such as customer onboarding, until they can be automated by engineers.
Develop business processes for customer support on the fly.
Adapt to a role that will evolve quarterly.
