About The Position

The program director is responsible for coordinating program operation adhering to the regulations set forth by AmeriCorps Seniors (Corporation for National Service) and the sponsoring agency, Appalachian State University. The director acts as an advocate for low-income seniors and the services provided in the community, as well as the PR person collaborating with other agencies such as Boards of Education, principals, teachers, developmental day school staff, and head start staff. It is also the responsibility of the director to seek additional revenues to help support and expand the program. This is a grant-funded program and role.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions

Responsibilities

  • Run the Foster Grandparent Program

  • Budget management and oversight
  • Serve as a liaison between teachers, volunteers, and boards of education
  • Recruit volunteers and the university
