Forward Deployed Finance Engineer, Buyout

Harvey•New York, NY
•$254,600 - $381,800•Hybrid

About The Position

Harvey is transforming how legal and professional services operate by combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise. This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point, with strong product-market fit and world-class investor support. The team moves fast, takes ownership, and is deeply committed to the mission, operating with intensity, staying close to customers, and pushing for excellence. Harvey values Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished. The Finance Engineering team is the investment-side counterpart to the Legal Engineering team, composed of former investment professionals who bring real deal experience to Harvey's prospects and customers. Forward Deployed Finance Engineers lead discovery, demos, pilots, trainings, onboarding, and custom builds. They translate real investment work into Harvey solutions, serving as the trust layer across the entire customer lifecycle. They work on Harvey Deals, a product built off Harvey's acquisition of Benchmark, where investment teams run their deals – screening, underwriting, diligence, and committee materials – using the firm's own templates and formats. Harvey works with 150+ asset management firms and analyzes 178M+ documents each month. The Finance Engineering team ensures this capability meets the way deal teams actually work. Finance Engineers understand how investors think and work, using that expertise to design, build, and refine solutions. They drive adoption and shape Harvey's product roadmap, ensuring releases are grounded in what investment teams need. This role is the first Finance Engineer dedicated to buyout, responsible for building the buyout playbook, running live pilots, and leading the buyout practice as the team grows. Travel is expected 2-3+ times per month for 1-3 days at a time for significant business needs.

Requirements

  • 3+ years on the investment team at a buyout fund (middle-market or lower-middle-market, ideally with add-on activity) or a growth-buyout or sector-specialist fund.
  • Demonstrated ownership of live deal work: screening, underwriting, diligence workstreams, modeling, and drafting investment committee materials.
  • Principal-side deal execution is required (investment banking or transaction advisory experience before the buyside is welcome).
  • Strong command of the documents and data that drive a buyout decision (CIM and management presentation, QoE and data pack, banker and operating models, LBO, purchase agreement and financing terms).
  • Instinct for where the numbers and the paper disagree.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Comfort with prompting and agentic AI workflows.
  • A builder's instinct for turning a repeated manual process into a repeatable automation.
  • Executive presence and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish credibility from analysts and associates through to partners and investment committee members.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills — comfortable leading a live demo, facilitating a workshop, or holding your own in a technical conversation about an underwriting assumption.
  • Deep curiosity about AI's potential to transform investment work, paired with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset and bias toward action.
  • Track record partnering with senior stakeholders to drive results, with curiosity for testing approaches and optimizing for customer outcomes.
