About The Position

This is a 3-month summer internship (June 2026 –August 2026). We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineering Intern who loves mapping real workflows, breaking down ambiguous problems, and shipping AI automations that directly improve how our internal teams operate. In this role, you'll embed primarily with our People Team (Talent, HR, and beyond), learn how their work gets done, and rapidly experiment with LLM-powered solutions that drive measurable impact. This internship is a fit if you're excited about AI-first engineering, fast iteration, and operating at the front lines of the business. You'll help build the playbooks and tools that shape how Homebase adopts AI across the company.

Requirements

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI-first engineering, including hands-on experimentation with LLMs, agents, or automation tooling.
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or React, whether through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or open-source contributions.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, learning new systems quickly, and working directly with non-technical stakeholders.
  • A product mindset — ability to break down problems, scope solutions, and iterate quickly based on user feedback.
  • Strong communication skills for pairing with business partners and demoing work.
  • Genuine curiosity about People operations, HR tech, or talent workflows — or eagerness to learn how AI can transform the way organizations hire and grow their teams.
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program and available for a summer internship (June–August).
  • Ability to collaborate in the Houston or San Francisco office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Passion for helping small businesses and building tools that make teams more effective.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with the People team, including Talent Acquisition and HR functions, to map workflows, surface pain points, and identify high-leverage AI automation opportunities that level up how we hire, onboard, and support our team.
  • Design, prototype, and ship AI-powered automations end-to-end, applying LLMs creatively to real business workflows in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
  • Build full-stack solutions: From Python scripts and backend services to intuitive React interfaces — for internal teams to use in production.
  • Operate like a product-minded engineer: Run interviews, co-design solutions, and iterate based on real-world usage and feedback.
  • Measure impact rigorously: Ship changes that move metrics like rep talk time, ticket deflection, adoption, and operational efficiency.
  • Codify what works by creating reusable templates, playbooks, and documentation for future engineers and partner teams.
  • Experiment with AI tools to accelerate your own workflows and demonstrate AI fluency in your daily work (a Homebase expectation for all roles).
