About The Position

Praetorian is looking for a Forward Deploy Engineer who operates with clear ownership. This role is not just about answering tickets; it's about setting the standard for customer-facing engineering. The ideal candidate believes that addressing the immediate issue is just the beginning, with the real work involving preventing future customers from encountering the same problems. The role requires a customer-first approach, focusing on unblocking customers quickly and completely, and demonstrating mission-driven grit. Prioritizing customer outcomes over internal processes and valuing truth and clarity are essential. The engineer must also possess the maturity to handle unreasonable requests professionally, escalate issues deliberately with a diagnosis, and handle most issues independently.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 2–5 years in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., solutions engineering, customer success engineering, security operations).
  • Strong customer presence, with the ability to handle people and systems effectively.
  • Credibility and composure in front of skeptical stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing skills, suitable for creating documentation.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing unfamiliar systems to root cause (auth, permissions, network, data).
  • Experience verifying issues out-of-band using tools like curl, dig, and nmap.
  • Ability to navigate a production codebase, scope small changes safely, and ship a reviewed PR.
  • A teacher's instinct to make customers self-sufficient.
  • Product sense to distinguish individual wants from customer base needs, backing feedback with evidence.
  • Experience leveraging AI agents and automation for scaled operations without sacrificing accuracy or judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of attack surface management, vulnerability management, or offensive security, sufficient to speak credibly about findings.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical requests end-to-end, including integration setup, error troubleshooting, and root-cause diagnosis for the Praetorian Guard Platform.
  • Act as a credible technical peer to the customer's security team, providing actionable answers.
  • Build documentation, video walkthroughs, and self-serve tools to enable customer self-sufficiency and reduce ticket volume.
  • Fix documentation issues promptly and leverage AI tooling to enhance operational scale.
  • Transform recurring customer friction into well-formed product feedback, backed by evidence.
  • Ship fixes directly for simple changes, such as error message clarity or minor UI adjustments.
  • Escalate larger problems to engineering with a clear diagnosis and reproduction steps.

Benefits

  • Culture built on high performance and deep ownership.
  • Opportunity to work alongside the top 1% of the industry.
  • A culture defined by action, grit, and uncompromising transparency.
  • The chance to work on meaningful problems that directly protect critical organizations.
