Forward Deployed Engineer

NTT DATA Services•Remote, NJ
•$155,700 - $259,500•Remote

About The Position

Forward Deployed Engineers are the builders on this engagement. They work inside the Client environment and repositories, turning specifications into working software quickly and then hardening it for production. In design, the Spec FDEs build prototypes of submission intake and FNOL that MSIG stakeholders can use and react to. In build, the FDE team delivers the production services, integrations and automation behind both tracks.

Requirements

  • Spec and onshore build: 7+ years of software engineering; offshore build: 4+ years.
  • Strong Python; working knowledge of TypeScript or Java is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM applications: prompt engineering, tool use or agents, evaluation, RAG, and vector search.
  • Experience with document processing: OCR, layout-aware parsing, classification and structured extraction.
  • Solid API and integration skills (REST, event-driven patterns) and cloud deployment on AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • CI/CD, containerization and infrastructure-as-code experience.
  • Spec FDEs specifically: proven ability to prototype quickly and work directly with business users.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LLM gateway or proxy tooling and multi-provider model routing.
  • Insurance, financial services or other document-heavy regulated domains.
  • Experience with knowledge graphs, entity resolution or temporal data models.

Responsibilities

  • Build services, APIs and workflow logic for the model gateway and the document ingestion pipeline.
  • Write and maintain prompts, agent definitions and evaluators, and use evaluation results to improve extraction quality.
  • Implement integration components, schemas, mappings and transformation logic for delivery into MSIG underwriting and claims systems.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, environment configuration, test automation and release notes.
  • Work to specifications and the prioritized backlog, and flag early when a spec is ambiguous or unworkable.
  • Keep all code and artifacts in client repositories to MSIG and NTT DATA engineering standards.
  • Turn specifications into working prototypes fast, often within days, so stakeholders can validate concepts on real documents.
  • Iterate prototypes in the specify, prototype, validate, refine loop alongside the Domain Advisor and AI Business Analyst.
  • Build early extraction pipelines for D&O and Ocean Marine Cargo documents, with source-passage traceability and confidence scoring.
  • Stand up a working gateway prototype showing routing, fallback and cost logging.
  • Harden accepted prototypes into build-ready designs with clear technical specs for the build team.

Benefits

  • This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.
