About The Position

EY Consulting’s AI Engineering and Solutions team builds transformative production AI systems for technology companies across software, cloud, semiconductors, cybersecurity, and digital platforms. The Senior Manager and Forward Deployed Engineer will establish and lead EY’s Forward Deployed Engineer capability for the Technology sector. The role combines software engineering, AI and platform expertise, sector knowledge, and customer leadership. It involves working within client environments, building production AI systems hands-on, and influencing sales, delivery outcomes, and reusable sector intellectual property. The position is intended to turn individual engagements into repeatable value: delivery work should generate solution patterns, sector playbooks, and platform capabilities that benefit EY and its clients. The role works with client executives and internal sales and delivery teams to shape opportunities, guide architecture, build and operate production systems, develop reusable standards, and grow client relationships. The position may require working in person at an EY office or client location up to 50% of the time, depending on client and project needs. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • 15 or more years of applied engineering experience, including significant senior AI/ML engineering, architecture, or client-facing technology delivery experience.
  • Expert knowledge of LLM behavior, context design, advanced prompt engineering, fine-tuning trade-offs, and failure modes—not merely API usage.
  • Proven delivery of production-grade generative AI, RAG, and agentic systems with guardrails, human oversight, and responsible AI controls.
  • Ability to redesign business processes around agents and multi-step AI workflows, including tool integration, context management, and failure handling.
  • Track record of building reusable components, reference architectures, and shared AI platform capabilities across teams or clients.
  • Strong systems and performance expertise across distributed systems, API design (REST, GraphQL, or gRPC), latency, cost, reliability, and scale.
  • Advanced hands-on Python or Java skills; cloud-native services on Azure, AWS, and/or GCP; Kubernetes; Docker; and CI/CD.
  • Experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric, and AI-ready data foundations.
  • Experience building evaluation frameworks, benchmarking, A/B testing, and production quality measurement.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous client environments and reach a working solution quickly.
  • Ability to provide architect-level guidance to senior technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience enabling clients and EY teams to adopt, run, and extend systems.
  • High-trust, long-term client relationship skills, with proven contribution to sales and account growth.
  • Ability to work in person at an EY office and/or client location up to 50% of the time, based on client and project needs.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving software, cloud, semiconductor, cybersecurity, digital-platform, fintech, media technology, or AI-native organizations.
  • Prior experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, solutions engineer, or field CTO at a product or AI-native company.
  • Experience with GPU-accelerated AI workloads and managed cloud AI services, such as NVIDIA GPU platforms or managed AI services on major clouds.
  • Experience taking generative AI, RAG, or agentic systems from prototype to production.
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks such as Teporal, Restate, LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar.
  • Established market relationships within the Bay Area technology ecosystem.
  • Microsoft, Google Cloud, or AWS certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the Forward Deployed Engineer capability for the Technology sector, including its role model, hiring bar, engineering standards, and ways of working with sales and delivery teams.
  • Work with senior client stakeholders to clarify ambiguous problems, shape AI use cases, and connect technical decisions to business outcomes.
  • Lead solution shaping, proposals, pricing, and technical demonstrations; develop working prototypes to support sales and reduce engagement risk.
  • Own end-to-end architecture for strategic generative AI, RAG, and agentic programs, including service boundaries, orchestration, data contracts, evaluation frameworks, and operational guardrails.
  • Remain hands-on by writing code, reviewing designs, and resolving complex and escalated technical problems across teams.
  • Define reference architectures and API and integration strategies that enable clients to evolve models, workflows, and data stores safely and independently of internal AI service topology.
  • Set standards for evaluation, benchmarking, observability, resilience, security, and responsible AI, and build safety controls into production systems.
  • Convert delivery work into reusable solution patterns, sector playbooks, and platform primitives that improve sales and delivery across the Technology sector portfolio.
  • Build long-term, high-trust relationships with client executives and grow accounts by connecting EY capabilities across AI and Data, Digital Engineering, Technology Strategy, and Risk.
  • Hire, coach, and develop FDEs and engineers, using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve team speed and quality.
  • Prepare client and EY teams to adopt, operate, and extend the systems built.
