Forward Deployed Engineer II

Federato
5d$130,000 - $160,000

About The Position

Federato is on a mission to defend the right to efficient, equitable insurance for all. We enable insurers to provide affordable coverage to people and organizations facing the issues of today - the climate crisis, cyber-attacks, social inflation, etc. Our vision is understood and well funded by those behind Salesforce, Veeva, Zoom, Box, etc. Federato is the only AI-native platform that spans the full policy lifecycle and changes the way insurance work gets done. Better decisioning is built-in, not bolted on: insurers' unique portfolio goals, strategies, rules, and appetite are part of the workflow so underwriters win the right deals, faster. From the moment a submission hits an underwriter’s inbox, AI is put to work, triaging submissions with a focus on high-appetite business, delivering real-time feedback on the portfolio, and consolidating workflows into a single proven system. Federato drives better business outcomes. What You'll Be Doing: This role will be heavily hands-on with coding, including writing and debugging production and integration code in languages such as Python, JavaScript, and SQL as part of customer implementations and internal tooling.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5+ years of software engineering, systems engineering, or technical product/program management experience
  • Strong programming or configuration skills (e.g., JavaScript, SQL) and demonstrated ability to navigate multiple product domains.
  • Comfortable interacting with customers, handling technical discovery, and translating business needs into scoped deliverables.
  • Proven ability to coordinate across teams, anticipate dependencies or blockers, and escalate risks appropriately.
  • Mentor or coach more junior team members; contribute to process improvements and internal knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution and delivery of complex customer implementations.
  • Estimate timelines, identify implementation risks, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Implement real-world scenarios — including custom configurations and integrations — adapting the product to fit client systems and workflows.
  • Own regular segments of customer-facing calls, UAT (user acceptance testing) feedback, and guiding customers through issue resolution or configuration adjustments.
  • Collaborate across functions (Product, Engineering, Customer Success) to coordinate dependencies and communicate impacts of potential changes or customizations.
  • Drive internal process improvements and automation to reduce manual efforts and improve delivery efficiency.
  • Create and maintain robust documentation (runbooks, best practices, delivery playbooks) and share learnings with junior FDEs.
