Forward Deployed Data Engineer
About The Position
This role blends hands-on data engineering with direct customer ownership, from first workshop through to delivered solution. The Forward Deployed Data Engineer will lead discovery workshops with customers to understand their business problems firsthand, present findings and solution approaches to both technical teams and executive stakeholders, and translate business problems into scoped data, analytics and AI solutions. The role involves building and prototyping applied AI use cases directly with customers, owning engagements end to end, including scoping, estimates and risk management, and working closely with Sales, Product and Engineering to shape and deliver customer solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering or analytics engineering experience
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience with a cloud data warehouse, Snowflake preferred, or equivalent hands-on depth on another modern cloud data warehouse
- Python or another relevant programming language
- Experience with dbt or an equivalent transformation framework
- Solid data quality and governance practices
- Git-based development and CI/CD experience
- Strong customer-facing communication skills, comfortable presenting to executive audiences
Nice To Haves
- Power BI dashboard-building experience is a plus
- Prior experience in professional services, solutions engineering or technical consulting is a plus
- Experience with Snowflake Secure Data Sharing or customer data integration is a plus
- Streaming or near-real-time data experience is a plus
- Background in transportation, telematics, logistics, compliance or cold-chain, or familiarity with North American fleet operations, is a plus
