About The Position

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Forming Tech II, Nutformer 1st Shift for our Fullerton, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Requirements

  • Willing to learn or have a working knowledge in manufacturing and quality processes and principles
  • Prior machining experience
  • Knowledge of measuring instruments and gages for their operation
  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Understand the speeds and feeds pertaining to the machine they are operating (where applicable)
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • Three or more years' experience in set up operation with a fastener manufacturing company.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and solve problems of the most advanced level.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in set up and operates cold heading machines and/or Nut Formers
  • Learns the set up and operation of assigned machines
  • Under the direction of others selects mounts and adjusts proper punches and die sets
  • Assembles dies and punches using Hydraulic press
  • Under the direction of others sets machine speeds, feeds, and stops.
  • Works from work orders, heading/nutformer parts prints, and machine layouts.
  • Utilizes knowledge of metal flow capabilities of various metals to operate machines and produce parts consistent with print specifications.
  • Checks parts with standard gauges or precision measuring instruments and submits parts for “first article” inspection as required.
  • Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.
  • Reads blueprints and has knowledge to use micrometers, calipers, comparators, thread gauges, depth micrometers and dial indicators as needed and read blueprints.
  • Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.
  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.
