About The Position

The forklift operator is responsible for operating a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise in a food warehouse environment. The operator must ensure the safe and efficient operation of the forklift while adhering to all warehouse procedures and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid forklift operator certification/license or at least 6 months of prior experience.
  • Proven experience operating a forklift in a warehouse or similar environment, preferably in the food industry.
  • Ability to safely lift and move heavy objects and operate equipment in tight spaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in counting and recording inventory.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety procedures and practices.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and reporting.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a refrigerated or freezer environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to load, unload, move, stack, and stage products and materials.
  • Perform routine pre- and post-inspections on forklift equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including forklifts and warehouse spaces.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and observing traffic rules within the warehouse.
  • Assist in inventory control by accurately counting and recording merchandise as it is moved.
  • Communicate effectively with warehouse supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and maintain workflow.
  • Report any forklift malfunctions or safety concerns to management immediately.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to food safety and hygiene.
  • Participate in training programs and meetings to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by warehouse management.
