About The Position

ABC Recycling is seeking a Forklift Operator to operate equipment based out of Burnaby, B.C. The job holder will be responsible for loading/ unloading scrap metal bales into shipping containers, sorting/grading/weighing metal, and managing the inventory levels throughout the yard. This is a full time, year-round job opportunity with many opportunities for increased earnings through overtime and site-based project work. The ideal candidate is attentive, flexible, and wanting a long-term career.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid forklift ticket for operating a sit-down counterbalance lift
  • Ability to drive a forklift and at times assist with offloading forklift loads with other team members
  • Able to solve basic to moderate problems, organize and accomplish tasks within set timeframe
  • Ability to walk, lift, carry and drive a forklift for the majority of your shift while working
  • Able to sit, stand and work in a variety of environments including wet, humid, particulate (dusty), cold, hot, and indoor/outdoor for extended period of time
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Safety conscious
  • Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally

Responsibilities

  • Loads/ unloads material into shipping containers and customer vehicles using a forklift.
  • Sorts, grades, and weighs scrap and inputs information into the computer.
  • Maintains neatness and cleanliness of yard and warehouse.
  • Manages inventory in appropriate/designated storage areas in warehouse.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork. May include, but not limited to, daily logs, inspection logs, delivery receipts, vehicle inspection, hours of service, etc.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and performs other minor preventative maintenance on the machine.
  • Diagnoses/identifies defects on mobile equipment and repots to manager.
  • Maintains working knowledge of changes in technology and operation techniques.
  • Maintains general housekeeping in work areas and inside equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Communicates with fellow workers in a professional manner.
  • Complies with all PPE requirements for the task.
