About The Position

The Forklift Operator is responsible for supplying and staging the production lines with all necessary materials, packaging, dunnage, and equipment, as well as removing finished goods. The Forklift Operator is also responsible for unloading incoming steel coils and loading trucks with finished goods. This is a safety-sensitive position working directly with machinery and equipment in a manufacturing facility. The environment is non-climate-controlled, and ambient air temperature can occasionally exceed outside air temperature.

Requirements

• Ability to work with and communicate (verbal and written) effectively with vendors and within all levels of the organization.
• Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and pounds using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete written, oral, or diagram instructions.
• Must possess and maintain a valid forklift operator's license issued by the Company.

Nice To Haves

• A high school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing environment
• Experience in inventory control

Responsibilities

• Operates manufacturing machinery to safely place metal coils on and off an unwinder using a forklift and overhead crane to move material using the proper procedure.
• Move, tag, and store materials and finished goods in proper locations, stacking them safely and properly.
• Unload inbound trucks, ensuring they are appropriately docked and chocked before unloading.
• Load outbound trucks, ensuring the product is appropriately loaded to include even distribution of weight on the truck.
• Empty scrap tubs throughout the shift as needed.
• Complete and maintain all required documentation.
• Verifies and documents that all functions of the equipment and vehicle are in safe working condition before the beginning of the shift, including checking fluids and safety devices.
• Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned, including projects or assignments to support the Plant.
