About The Position

The Forklift Operator is responsible for reading work orders or following instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved. This role requires the safe operation of a lift truck and adherence to all safety and environmental policies. The operator will move materials, stack finished products, load trailers, and complete necessary documentation. This position also involves participating in the segregation of non-conforming product and working with line personnel to ensure a smooth flow of finished product. The operator must stay informed of the latest OSHA and related safety procedures, particularly concerning forklift operation and battery handling. Additionally, the role requires upholding site and corporate environmental policies and ensuring compliance with customer expectations and Hazard Materials Regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Lift truck license required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and convey instructions or information.
  • Ability to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide fractions.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and size.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move more than 35 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • To be capable of productivity in a diverse range of environments.
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • To be able to work in a team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Reads work orders or follows instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Demonstrates the safe operation of a lift truck and possesses a valid tow motor license.
  • Moves materials from storage or work site to designated area.
  • Follows good housekeeping, and ensures raw materials/supplies are placed properly on pallets.
  • Stacks finished product neatly in the warehouse with no damage and ensures good housekeeping practices.
  • Empties trash cans and dumpsters daily in respective departments.
  • Ensures that all forklift PM and battery change logs are filled out daily and that the equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Inspects the inside of truck trailers to ensure no damage or contamination prior to loading.
  • Pulls product, and loads trailers for shipment per shipping requirement.
  • Completes Shipping /Receiving Documentation where required.
  • Participates in the segregation and identification of non-conforming product.
  • Works with line personnel to ensure smooth flow of finished product.
  • Relieves personnel for breaks as required.
  • Covers opposite-shift vacations.
  • Keeps informed of the latest OSHA and related safety procedures for the proper operation of the forklift.
  • Follows all safety rules and procedures and observes the operations to insure a safe environment.
  • Upholds Site and Corporate Environmental Policies by following all Environmental Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Ensures compliance to meet the expectation of our customers.
  • Understands and follows Hazard Materials Regulations 49 CFR Part 172.704 (a)(1) General awareness/familiarization training, (a)(3) Safety training, and (a)(4) Security awareness training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
