About The Position

Ensures that customer requirements are satisfied by coordinating and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment.

Requirements

Forklift operation
Record keeping for incoming and outgoing shipments
Preparation of items for shipment
Knowledge of shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, and orders
Ability to determine shipping priorities and methods
Understanding of space requirements and truck positioning
Knowledge of routing and legal load limits
Inspection of loading operations
Sealing boxcars and truck doors
Inspection and basic maintenance reporting for material handling equipment
Directing movement of shipments
Compiling records of unfilled orders
Posting weight and shipping charges
Preparation of bills of lading
Adherence to safety rules
Good housekeeping practices
Regular and prompt attendance

Responsibilities

Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping priorities and shipping methods required to satisfy customer requirements.
Determines space requirements and position of shipment trucks and lays out position of shipment.
Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Maintains vehicle maintenance report.
Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
Compiles records of unfilled orders. Posts weight and shipping charges. Prepares bills of lading.
Learns, practices and obeys the safety rules of the company.
Practices good housekeeping.
Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
