About The Position

The Material Handler 1- Forklift Operator is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving material within or near the manufacturing plant, yard, or work site by hand (general labor/manual pallet jack) or with the use of industrial vehicles such as sit-down forklift, stand-up forklift, or electric pallet jack.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Frequently required to walk; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Responsibilities

Reads work orders or follow oral instructions to determine materials or containers to be moved.
Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand, pallet jack, or forklift.
Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and takes samples to laboratory for analysis.
Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and maintains a clean work area including machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
Make simple adjustments or repairs such as realigning belts or replacing rollers.
Assemble crates to contain products such as machines or vehicles.
Operates industrial vehicles or electric pallet jack to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
Assist with yearly inventory.
