About The Position

The Forklift/Backup Shuttle Driver works in Shipping/Receiving and reports to the Department Supervisor. This non-exempt hourly role drives a yard dog to position trailers and operates a propane-powered industrial truck to move products, equipment, and materials. The position also operates and maintains the yard dog, inspects and maintains dry box and refrigerant trailers, moves trailers in and out of docks, loads and unloads trailers, places finished goods in warehouse, cooler, or freezer racks, maintains dock areas, and fuels the yard dog and refrigerant units. Other duties may be assigned. The position is scheduled for the first shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime is required based on production needs. The pay rate is $16.50 per hour. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be able to speak, read, and write English, and have basic computer skills, including the ability to input data. The role requires the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; perform basic arithmetic; and use common sense to follow written or oral instructions. The job requires lifting 50 pounds 50–100 times per shift, standing or walking for the duration of the shift, frequent hand use and reaching, and repeatedly climbing onto and descending from the shuttle vehicle. Employees may also occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The work environment includes moving mechanical parts, vibration, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and heat, and usually loud noise.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and other written information.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written or oral instructions.
Basic computer knowledge and ability to input data.
Ability to lift 50 pounds 50–100 times during a shift.
Ability to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift.
Ability to use hands for fingering, gripping, handling, or feeling, and to reach with hands and arms.
Ability to repeatedly climb onto and descend from a shuttle vehicle.
Ability to talk and hear; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Ability to meet productivity standards, complete work in a timely manner, adapt to frequent changes or unexpected events, follow policies and instructions, and ask for or offer help when needed.

Responsibilities

Drive and maintain the yard dog to position trailers.
Inspect and maintain dry box and refrigerant trailers.
Move trailers in and out of docks.
Operate a forklift to load and unload trailers.
Place finished goods in appropriate warehouse, cooler, or freezer rack locations.
Maintain dock areas.
Fuel the yard dog and refrigerant units.
Follow safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance and complete assigned work on time.
