About The Position

Assists workers engaged in fabrication of forged products by performing various duties. Employees are required to know and follow safe work practices and be aware of Company policies and procedures related to job safety. All functions, duties, or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical, and professional manner. Employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives in the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of Company policies and procedures. The role involves understanding the roles and responsibilities of the press or hammer crew, reading shop travelers and operating procedures, sweeping dies, operating furnace controls, cleaning and lubricating dies, functioning as a scale blower, operating tools to set dies and trimmers, gaining knowledge of materials and forging practices, safe operation of floor manipulators, setting up and using impression stamps, and cleaning the work area, machines, tools, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one situations with supervisors or other employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Knows the roles and relationships of each member of the press or hammer crew and where they are and their responsibilities during the operation of the press or hammer.
  • Basic ability to read and understand shop traveler, operating procedures, daily production reports and other work instructions.
  • Sweeps dies, operates all furnace controls (door, hearth, and car), cleans and lubricates dies, functions as scale blower and operates tools required to set dies and trimmers.
  • After a predefined training period is completed, has gained a basic knowledge of materials and forging practices, safe operation of floor manipulators.
  • Sets up and uses impression stamps.
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Performs other routine duties.
