About The Position

This is the third of seven levels in the Grounds and Facility Maintenance series. Incumbents maintain assigned buildings and grounds. Responsibilities may include cleaning assigned facilities; maintaining landscaping; operating heavy equipment; setting up for meetings and events; touching up paint; replacing lightbulbs, filters, and similar items; performing minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems; performing rough carpentry and minor welding; installing small electrical appliances and furniture; and securing buildings. This position will remain open through September 22, 2026, or until filled.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in facilities maintenance
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties
  • Possession of a valid Class D driver’s license
  • Knowledge of procedures and methods related to area of assignment
  • Knowledge of applicable equipment, materials, and tools used in grounds maintenance activities
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and general equipment and maintenance principles
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes
  • Knowledge of inventory principles
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles
  • Knowledge of computers and related software applications
  • Knowledge of safe work practices
  • Skill in tree maintenance
  • Skill in completing (or willing to learn) labor, trades, construction, and/or repair projects
  • Skill in using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment
  • Skill in performing trades maintenance activities
  • Skill in reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings
  • Skill in applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Skill in monitoring and maintaining inventory
  • Skill in maintaining records
  • Skill in using a computer and related software applications
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Responsibilities

  • Works with and maintains a wide variety of trees
  • Under general supervision, uses comprehensive knowledge to perform work associated with the planting, care and maintenance, and removal of trees on City-owned property, parks, and rights-of-way
  • Operates various equipment and tools which are used for daily tree work projects
  • Prunes and maintains trees on City property, parks, and rights-of-way
  • Performs planting, transplanting, watering, fertilization, and mulching projects
  • Loads and unloads all equipment for transporting to work sites
  • Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work
  • Performs other work as required
