About The Position

The Forestry Foreman leads and supervises field crews in urban or wildland forest management, restoring land, ensuring environmental compliance as well as safety, efficiency and project completion. This position will plan daily field operations, operate equipment, manage safety protocols and train teammates with tasks such as tree planting, removal, pruning and thinning.

Requirements

  • 3 -5 years in forestry, silviculture or tree care operations.
  • Expertise in tree identification, silviculture practices and heavy machinery operation.
  • Strong communication, motivation and problem-solving skills to manage crews in, often, difficult terrain.
  • Technical proficiency with chainsaws, heavy equipment and forest management practices.
  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement preferred.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing and supervising.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to mentor direct reports.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

Nice To Haves

  • ISA Certified Arborist, chainsaw safety certifications and specialized licenses for pesticide applications obtained within first year of employment.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Travel to job sites is required as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, assigns and inspects the work of forestry crew(s) to meet project goals.
  • Executing land restoration, soil stabilization, erosion control and revegetation activities.
  • Monitoring progress against project specifications, managing on-site materials and managing site preparation.
  • Enforces safety regulations and protocols, conducts safety meetings and monitors equipment safety in the field.
  • Schedules daily tasks, sets up work sites and manages resources (equipment, materials).
  • Performs or oversees arboriculture and forestry tasks: planting, pruning, chainsaw operation, and chemical application.
  • Maintains time sheets, records of daily work and inventory documentation.
  • Work together with management to communicate production goals and quality specifications of work, discuss issues that have surfaced and recommend ideas to help team achieve project goals.
