About The Position

This position provides forest management technical assistance to rural private forest landowners to achieve their goals, including timber revenue, sustained yield, ecological management, and wildlife management. It also involves providing advice on timber marking, volume estimation, and sales of forest products. The role offers technical assistance in implementing federal cost-share programs, site preparation, tree planting procedures, investment analysis, timber stand improvement methods, and diagnosing forest insect and disease outbreaks. Additionally, it involves preparing Stewardship and other management plans, proper tree selection, and tree planting procedures. The position also provides technical assistance for Urban Community Forest (UCF) grants, Tree City USA, and Champion Tree designations. It responds to homeowners' requests for analysis of shade tree and ornamental tree diseases and provides information on prevention and control methods. The role includes providing wildfire and emergency response support, assisting in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans, and hazardous fuels mitigation. It also assists in enforcing Florida’s open burning laws and regulations. Furthermore, the position offers technical assistance to county commissions, municipalities, and other county and city agencies in developing and implementing effective environmental studies and practices related to land-use planning, zoning, and development. This includes conservation and environmental planning, recreation and open-space planning, zoning variances related to vegetation, drafting ordinances relative to tree protection, landscaping, reclamation, and preservation of natural areas, and establishing conservation and scenic easements to preserve natural amenities. The role utilizes mass media systems to inform the public about forestry and conservation developments, conducts technical information and education workshops for private forest landowners, and provides local schools with information and assistance pertinent to environmental education. The position performs other related work as assigned, which may include handling revenue.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s (4 years) and/or master’s (6 years) degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement.
• A bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in Forestry or a related field obtained outside the United States must either: 1) be obtained from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or 2) curriculum must include at least two (2) of the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.
• Applicants will provide an academic equivalency evaluation obtained in the United States showing the required courses.
• ALL POSITIONS WITHIN THIS CLASS REQUIRE POSSESSION OF A VALID DRIVER LICENSE.
