About The Position

Our Mission – To protect and promote resilient forests that benefit all Oregonians. You’ll be part of the ODF team that serves our fellow Oregonians relying on regulation and protection of both public and private forest land in our great state of Oregon! ODF is looking for a Forest Manager 2 – Assistant District Forester to assist the District Forester with providing leadership through policy and operational oversight and direction of program activities for the Klamath-Lake District within the Department of Forestry, and maintains political contacts with local legislators, county commissioners, and maintains close working relationships with the Board of Directors for the District's respective forest protective association.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation; OR Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field AND three (3) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which includes which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.
  • Driver’s License Check – This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for official State business. As part of the hiring process, the agency uses Advanced Reporting LLC to conduct all required DMV and CDL driving‑record checks. Advanced Reporting LLC will obtain and review the driving record for the top candidate to verify possession of a valid license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and monitor the work of subordinate managers and staff across skilled, administrative, technical, and professional classifications.
  • Ensure program delivery and performance align with agency standards and expectations within the district’s geographical area.
  • Coordinate activities across program areas to maintain consistent implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Develop, review, and approve district-level plans and purchases to support program operations.
  • Oversee the implementation of plans, strategies, and initiatives that advance agency goals and objectives.
  • Align district priorities with the Board of Forestry’s Forestry Program for Oregon (FPFO), the Agency Strategic Plan, and the Department’s Mission and Vision.
