About The Position

The Foreperson coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete all jobs according to contract specifications. This role involves directing crew members, managing equipment, assigning tasks, planning and executing work safely and professionally, and ensuring efficient completion of job assignments. The Foreperson is also responsible for customer communication, ensuring safety protocols are followed, performing tree trimming and removal, stump and brush spraying, loading and unloading trucks, designating break times, site cleanup, and equipment maintenance. Additionally, they must keep accurate records, conduct daily truck inspections and job briefings, and determine actions in emergency situations. Storm work may also be required.

Requirements

  • Must be able to meet and demonstrate qualifications of all positions on a crew.
  • Must be able to follow verbal or written directives.
  • Must be able to delegate work and take accountability for the performance of a crew.
  • Must be able to understand drawings and symbols representing lines, voltages, line equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of adjusting to field requirements and taking independent action without close supervision.
  • Must have and maintain a Driver’s License and be able to safely drive a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR.
  • Must have and maintain a Driver’s License if hired for a driving position.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others.
  • Must have endurance necessary to perform duties throughout a standard eight or ten hour day.
  • Must be able to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must meet I-9 requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
  • High School diploma or education equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies to complete jobs according to contract specifications.
  • Follows and enforces safe practices and rules.
  • Directs crew members and manages equipment daily.
  • Assigns specific tasks to crew members and supervises performance.
  • Plans and executes assigned work and tasks in a safe and professional manner.
  • Organizes job assignments for efficient completion.
  • Notifies private property owners of presence, obtains permission for tree work or herbicide application, and discusses issues with customers/property owners.
  • Ensures crew members wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe practices.
  • Trims and/or removes trees by climbing or using equipment, and cuts branches or trunk sections.
  • Sprays stumps and brush to prevent further growth.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with debris and feeds brush into a chipper.
  • Designates break and lunch times.
  • Directs cleanup of the job site and ensures equipment and supplies are secured.
  • Inspects work performed to job specifications and notifies the customer of completion.
  • Keeps accurate records of time, equipment, and material used.
  • Completes daily truck inspections and conducts job briefings.
  • Re-stocks needed supplies on the truck and performs routine maintenance on equipment or informs the General Foreperson of issues.
  • Determines action to take in emergency situations to eliminate hazards.
  • Performs duties for storm work as needed.
