About The Position

The Foreperson is responsible for leading field operations and overseeing a crew to ensure vegetation management work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company and client standards. This role blends hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring crew members, coordinating daily operations, and reinforcing a strong safety culture. The Foreperson plays a critical role in delivering high-quality work, maintaining productivity, and supporting employee development in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods in outdoor conditions, including adverse weather and rough terrain.
  • Demonstrated experience in vegetation management, utility line clearance, or related field operations.
  • Completion of Groundperson Training and Aerial Rescue Training.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Completion of Tree Feller Training and demonstrated proficiency in equipment operation.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices, including hazard recognition and mitigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Form MCSA-5876), where applicable.
  • Experience operating aerial lifts, bucket trucks, or climbing in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ANSI Z133 and utility safety requirements.
  • Prior leadership or crew supervision experience in vegetation management, forestry, or utility services.
  • Ability to read and interpret work maps, job plans, and utility specifications.
  • Successful completion of a Foreperson assessment or equivalent evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee vegetation management activities, including tree pruning, felling, bucking, limbing, and debris removal.
  • Safely operate and supervise the use of equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and mechanized equipment.
  • Establish and secure work zones, including implementing traffic control and hazard mitigation measures.
  • Conduct pre-job briefings (tailboards) to ensure hazard awareness and crew readiness.
  • Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and safe operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, industry standards (e.g., ANSI Z133), and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, direct, and coordinate daily crew activities to meet productivity and quality expectations.
  • Train, coach, and develop crew members in safe work practices, technical skills, and career progression.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork through active engagement and leadership.
  • Monitor job performance, provide feedback, and address performance or safety concerns proactively.
  • Support onboarding and skills development for new employees.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact on job sites for customers, property owners, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate work plans, schedules, and potential impacts clearly and professionally.
  • Resolve field-level concerns while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Complete and submit required documentation, including job reports, work orders, safety logs, and inspection records.
  • Track and manage equipment usage, maintenance needs, and crew productivity.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with client specifications and company quality standards.
