About The Position
The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Forensic Science is seeking a detail oriented and service focused Forensic Science Administrator I to join our team. The Group Supervisor of the Forensic Biology/Deoxyribonucleic Acid (FB/DNA) Section at the Forensic Science Center at Chicago oversees the technical, analytical, and administrative operations of a high‑volume forensic laboratory unit. This role provides expert leadership in FB/DNA casework, ensuring that all examinations, analyses, and reports meet rigorous scientific, legal, and quality‑assurance standards. The supervisor evaluates and approves FB/DNA laboratory reports, guiding staff in the application of validated methodologies and troubleshooting complex analytical issues. The position is responsible for maintaining operational readiness by ensuring personnel have the necessary equipment, supplies, and materials to complete their assignments efficiently and accurately. As a frontline leader, the supervisor assigns, directs, and coordinates the work of subordinate forensic scientists, balancing caseload demands with quality expectations to deliver timely, reliable results to Chicago Laboratory user agencies and the courts. The role also represents the FB/DNA section at professional conferences and seminars, staying current with emerging technologies, best practices, and advancements in forensic biology. Requirements
- Requires a bachelor's degree in a natural or forensic science, preferably supplemented by a master's degree in one of the biological, natural, physical or forensic sciences, or related discipline.
- Requires two (2) years of professional forensic science work experience such as would be gained at the advanced caseworker level.
- Successful completion of initial and on-going, random, alcohol and drug screens.
- Successful completion of a background investigation.
- Successful completion of a polygraph examination.
- Ability to maintain credibility in providing courtroom testimony.
- Ability to adhere to Illinois State Police's ethical standards, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to travel on an as needed basis.
- Ability to maintain proficiency in forensic science casework on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical and supervisory duties as the group supervisor of the Forensic Biology/Deoxyribonucleic acid (FB/DNA) section at Forensic Science Center at Chicago.
- Evaluates FB/DNA laboratory reports.
- Ensures that the FB/DNA unit personnel have sufficient equipment, supplies, and commodities to complete their coursework responsibilities.
- Assigns and coordinates the work of subordinate staff to ensure quality FB/DNA casework is provided in a timely manner to all Chicago Laboratory user agencies and courts.
- Provides expertise in troubleshooting problems.
- Attends and participates in conferences and seminars.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
