About The Position

Franciscan Health is seeking a PRN Forensic Nurse Examiner to provide compassionate and comprehensive medical-forensic exams to victims of violence. This role involves caring for patients who may be victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking. Responsibilities include obtaining consent and patient history, formulating a plan of care, assessing and conducting safety planning for victims and their families, collaborating with medical providers, victim advocates, law enforcement, Department of Child Services, and other social service agencies. The role may also require providing courtroom testimony.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Nursing / Patient Care
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State Licensing Board Indiana or Illinois
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Certification (SANE) - International Association of Forensic Nurses
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association As Required by Unit
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association As Required by Unit
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Certification (NIC) - National Certification Corporation (NCC) As Required by Unit

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate comprehensive medical-forensic exams to victims of violence.
  • See patients that may include victims of sexual assault, domestic violence/intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking and other abuse within the scope of practice.
  • Obtain consent and patient history to formulate a plan of care.
  • Assess and conduct safety planning for victims and their families.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, victim advocates, law enforcement, Department of Child Services and other social service agencies.
  • Provide courtroom testimony related to the care and treatment provided.
  • Collaborate with community partners such as Law enforcement, DCS, APS, and community advocates.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, families, and coworkers.
  • Assess, collect, and analyze comprehensive objective, subjective, psychosocial, and cultural data pertinent to patient condition.
  • Develop and implement plan of care in collaboration with the patient and family.
  • Continually review and revise plan of care as patient condition warrants.
  • Coordinate care by all agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault victim.
  • Coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed for each patient.
  • Perform a complete physical and forensic examination for assessment for trauma with possible evidence collection when applicable.
  • Document detailed injuries with the support of photographic evidence as required.
  • Collaborate with patients and their families, (and or primary caregiver) as well as members of a multidisciplinary team, to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhancement of the patient experience.
