About The Position

Start something meaningful - join our innovative team. Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Full-Time Forensic Certified Peer to join our Jail-based team. If you're passionate about supporting individuals on their recovery journey and making a meaningful impact during a critical time of change, we want to hear from you. Hourly rate for Peer Support Specialist with Certification by DMHA as a Certified Peer = $17.50/hour Hourly rate for Peer Support Specialist with NO Certification = $16/hour

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Certification preferred; eligibility required.
  • To be considered certified, must have either: Indiana Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP-DMHA), or Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC-A or CPRC – ICAADA)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver peer recovery support services as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team aimed at reducing recidivism among justice-involved individuals receiving FACT services.
  • Support individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and/or substance use disorders in recognizing, understanding and overcoming the stigma and discrimination associated with their conditions, empowering them to engage more fully in their recovery journey.
  • Provide person-centered, recovery-oriented services, focusing on each individual’s strengths, preferences, and unique path toward healing and sustained well-being.
  • Assist individuals in articulating personal recovery goals and help them identify actionable, concrete steps to achieve those goals, fostering self-efficacy and motivation in the recovery process.
  • Monitor and assess individuals' progress toward treatment objectives, offering constructive feedback, support, and recommendations to both the individual and the broader treatment team, and alerting the team to any concerns or deviations from treatment plans.
  • Leverage personal lived experience to serve as a role model for recovery, building rapport and trust with individuals by sharing relevant insights and fostering therapeutic relationships.
  • Participate in staff trainings, treatment team meetings, and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring seamless coordination of care and ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized community re-entry plans, assisting individuals in their transition from incarceration to independent living or relevant programming, ensuring a smooth and supportive re-entry process.
  • Facilitate meaningful reflection on the application of new skills, coping strategies, and behavioral patterns learned during treatment, helping individuals prepare for their release and reintegration into the community.
  • Assist with care coordination, supporting individuals in identifying their needs, addressing barriers to success, and leveraging their strengths to develop personalized, creative solutions to complex challenges.
