About The Position

Supervises and coordinates the activities of computer technicians responsible for maintenance of Personal Computer Systems, Midrange Computer Systems (Rail Control and Bus Radio), Remote Terminal Units, VPAS, ATDAS, Communications, Local Data Transmission Systems, etc.. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Electronic Technology or Business Administration with a minimum of two years of technical training from an accredited technical school.
  • Six years experience repairing personal computer systems.
  • In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above may be substituted.

  • Previous supervisory experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns work to and supervises unit employees. Ensures day-to-day activities, in support of unit work goals, are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures. Works closely with and supports the Technology Services Center.
  • Coaches personnel on proper performance of work, frequently providing direct technical assistance.
  • Plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high performance environment.
  • Monitors daily operations of assigned unit in accordance with established policies and regulations. Maintains up-to-date records on time and attendance and monitors work orders. Conducts inspections and verifies defects.
  • Performs and documents maintenance performed according to the standards in area assigned. Recommends changes in maintenance programs. Schedules equipment for maintenance checks and removal from service.
  • Monitors inventory of supplies, tools and equipment. Monitors work orders and ensures that sufficient materials are on hand to complete work efficiently. Notifies appropriate personnel when remaining stock falls below established levels. Coordinates/expedites purchase of services and equipment with vendors and assists in monitoring external contractors' quality and contractual compliance.
  • Participates on various continuous improvement teams, Quality Council and /or Communications Task Force in pursuit of organizational / Office goals.
  • Ensures proper completion of assigned work within established time frames. Monitors work plans to ensure required resources (staffing, equipment, materials, etc.) are available.
  • On call 24 hours per day. Responsible for weekend coverage, holidays, and special event coverage when necessary on a rotating basis.
  • Prepares all required maintenance reports in accordance with departmental protocol and Communications, Computers & Fare Collection System requirements.
  • Coordinates work activities to utilize relevant technologies to deliver continuous quality service, process improvements, and cost controls.
  • Investigates and responds to complaints from customers (internal and external) within five working days. Ensures response to complaints meets customers' expectations in terms of remedy and time.
  • Follows-up on maintenance problems to ensure all maintenance / repair actions are performed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Works with Planner to develop preventive and predictive maintenance work schedules.
  • Communicates to team at the beginning of each year the team's role in supporting goals, objectives, and strategic initiatives of the organization. Reviews team's progress in meeting established work plans quarterly.
  • Ensures that an annual training plan is developed for all staff and that staff receives necessary training to meet division goals and needs.
  • Maintains up-to-date records on computerized time and attendance system. Encourages perfect attendance for all team members. Coaches employees on codes of conduct / standards of excellence and issues verbal and written feedback when necessary in accordance with MARTA's policies and union guidelines.
