This position in ICLS’s Housing Practice Group focuses on providing legal assistance and representation to clients facing eviction in courts throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Housing Attorneys work to secure a client’s right to safe and habitable housing and to ensure tenants’ rights under federal and state law are upheld, either through negotiation or trial. A successful outcome often provides clients with adequate time to move, seals the court record, and establishes an accurate record of money owed. The work is challenging due to the scarcity of housing options for individuals facing eviction, but it is also rewarding as preserving housing is a community-centered, multi-faceted approach. The Housing Practice Group offers a strong support system for attorneys to discuss case trends, negotiation tactics, and litigation strategy, with built-in mentorship and readily available guidance. The team is further supported by dedicated paralegals assisting with court-based projects, clinic services, and housing hotlines, as well as talented legal administrative support staff. Staff attorneys are encouraged to conduct community legal education presentations, attend community resource events, collaborate with Pro Bono volunteers, participate in local bar association events, and engage with the broader civil legal aid community.
