About The Position

The Booker T. Washington Community Service Center (BTWCSC) is seeking an operationally-driven Food to Freedom Engagement Coordinator to support the community's right to healthy, culturally appropriate, and sustainably produced food. This role, under the direct supervision of the Food to Freedom Engagement & Education Manager, will focus on executing and expanding internal and external community food procurement and distribution programs, with an emphasis on community grocery and meal programs. The coordinator will ensure the safe distribution of nutritious food, applying best practices in food safety, health, and nutrition with a participant-centered approach. Key responsibilities include the timely and accurate collection, reporting, and filing of program data, including client outreach, applications, intakes, service logs, and program evaluations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in food, agricultural production, restaurant, grocery retail, or hospitality in a fast-paced setting, preferably in an operations position.
  • At least 2 years of direct experience in food justice and system work via teaching, organizing, garden education, and/or other educational activities.
  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete administrative work including data entry and client communication in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food and nutrition, inequities, social and cultural needs of underserved communities, and the historical and contemporary impacts of racism and structural inequities.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, clients, volunteers, and community members.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, socioemotional intelligence, and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Google Suite, MS Excel proficiency required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • If 21 years old, able to drive safely with a valid license, current insurance, and a clean driving record; able to pass a defensive driving course.
  • Must pass CPR/AED/1st Aid certification by an approved provider within 3 months from original date of hire and maintain while employed.
  • Must be able to move 50 pounds safely.
  • Must be able to effectively review documents.
  • Must be able to adequately communicate to respond to members and interact with the public.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
  • Physical requirements are also typical of those needed in an office environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in direct service and/or client management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with the outreach and engagement of diverse populations with racially and culturally-responsive services and programs, highly preferred.
  • Lived experience with Black/African-American communities and/or communities of color and/or navigating housing insecurity and/or the justice system preferred.
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in managing and/or implementing inventory management systems.
  • Experience working with food programs is highly desired.
  • Experience working with a variety of age groups (youth to senior) is highly desired.
  • ServSafe Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operations of all food programs and events, ensuring successful service delivery at community grocery and meal sites.
  • Follow and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies for inventory management, ordering, distribution, volunteer coordination, and food safety.
  • Provide consistent communication and feedback on improvements to the operational and administrative systems of the Food to Freedom Program.
  • Manage client needs, complaints, and issues, provide staff training, and implement system/process improvements.
  • Maintain distribution processes in accordance with health and safety regulations, prioritizing zero-waste practices.
  • Support the Food Operations Team with operational needs for signature holidays and events.
  • Provide excellent customer service and hospitality, resolving participant concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Provide cross-trained support for the Food Operations team in areas such as food supply, distribution, storage, disposal, and facility maintenance.
  • Collect, record, and maintain client-based and site-based service data in internal and external database systems.
  • Track and provide insights into program and community trends based on quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Implement evaluation activities to measure the impact of food distribution on family stability, health, and food security.
  • Collaborate with managers and data operations team members to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Contribute to identifying and implementing actionable systems solutions related to equitable food access.
  • Support the launch and service of new community grocery and meal sites.
  • Support and collaborate on targeted outreach to prospective clients/participants.
  • Implement administrative and communication tasks for client intakes, applications, eligibility assessments, and on-boarding.
  • Support and facilitate food justice education opportunities for staff and the community.
  • Coordinate with program teams and partners on community education opportunities, such as farm visits, grocery tours, and community dinners.
  • Assist in developing and integrating educational materials into existing food distribution programs.
