About The Position

The Food Services Assistant performs a variety of food-service and related tasks in preparing and serving food, cleaning up, and operating a school cafeteria. The role supports cafeteria users and provides backup to others involved in food preparation, service, cleanup, and maintenance.

The position is a 9-month appointment at Coyote Hills Elementary in Peoria, Arizona. It reports to the Kitchen Manager and may require work outside normal working hours. The role may involve exposure to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease, as well as lifting or carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and six months of relevant food-service or closely related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
• Possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Pass a background clearance check.
• Obtain a State of Arizona Food Handlers Permit within one month of employment and maintain it.
• Ability to lift and/or carry supplies, materials, equipment, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, as required.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes, and PUSD policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of customer-service principles.
• Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, codes, and PUSD policies and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others doing business with the district.
• Skill in operating a personal computer and a variety of software applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform food preparation tasks, including cutting, chopping, measuring, and preparing foods and related items.
• Carry food trays to the serving line; monitor food quantities; and retrieve, refill, and return trays to the serving line.
• Set up tables and eating areas.
• Greet students and other cafeteria users and provide information or assistance.
• Clean and sanitize the kitchen, utensils, floors, work stations, tables, and other cafeteria areas.
• Provide backup and assistance with food preparation, serving, cleanup, and kitchen and cafeteria maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.
