About The Position

The Food Services Assistant prepares and serves food and performs related tasks, including cleanup and operation of a school cafeteria. The position is assigned to Sundance Elementary in Peoria, Arizona, is in the Food Service department, reports to the Kitchen Manager, and has a nine-month term of employment. The role supports food preparation and serving, maintains cafeteria and kitchen areas, and assists other staff as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and six months of relevant food-service or closely related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and city statutes, regulations, ordinances, codes, and PUSD policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of customer-service principles.
• Ability to read, interpret, understand, and apply relevant laws, regulations, codes, and PUSD policies and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, students, parents, the public, and others doing business with the school district.
• Skill in operating a personal computer and a variety of software applications.
• Possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Pass a background clearance check.
• Obtain a State of Arizona Food Handlers Permit within one month of employment and maintain it.
• May be required to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
• May be required to lift and/or carry supplies, materials, equipment, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform food preparation tasks, including cutting, chopping, measuring, and preparing foods and related items.
• Carry food trays to the serving line and monitor remaining food quantities.
• Retrieve, refill, and return food trays to the serving line.
• Set up tables and eating areas.
• Greet students and other cafeteria users and assist them with information or other needs.
• Clean and sanitize the kitchen, utensils, floors, work stations, tables, and other food-service and cafeteria areas.
• Back up and assist others with food preparation, serving, cleanup, and maintenance of the kitchen and cafeteria.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.
