About The Position

This position involves preparing individuals for successful reentry into communities by fostering a humane and secure environment and ensuring public safety. The role includes duties such as typing and proofreading correspondence, entering and retrieving data using Food Service programs, maintaining files and records, and preparing reports. A significant aspect of the role is maintaining the security of the institution, which is a primary responsibility for all correctional institution employees.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required.
  • Must meet CTAP or ICTAP eligibility criteria.
  • Must be rated well-qualified for the position, scoring at least half of the possible points for the vacancy.
  • Must submit appropriate documentation to support CTAP eligibility (agency notice, most recent performance appraisal, and most recent SF-50).
  • GL-06 and GL-07: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.
  • Experience entering and retrieving data, using Food Service programs, and maintaining disks with back-up copies.
  • Experience typing and proof reading a wide range of correspondence, memorandums, reports and other written materials.
  • Experience tracking and preparing reports, tracking and maintaining budget and typing budget requests.
  • GL-07: Experience that provided a basic knowledge of arithmetic and the ability to perform responsibilities associated with tracking and maintaining budget, stock records and logs.
  • Experience recording and transcribing minutes of various meetings, and compiling minutes for distribution.
  • Experience utilizing a financial management budget computer program, coordinating budget data and information and keeping an updated budget account for the department.
  • Show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities for paid and unpaid experience.
  • Must upload legible transcripts as verification of educational requirement if education is a requirement/substitution for specialized experience.
  • Transcripts MUST include identifying information to include School Name, Student Name, Degree and Date Awarded (if applicable).
  • All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Maximum entry age of 36 for original appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution (unless prior federal law enforcement coverage exists).
  • Must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements in relation to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence if not currently working in an institution and will be authorized to carry a firearm.
  • Successful completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques", three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.

Responsibilities

  • Types and proofreads a wide range of correspondence, memorandums, reports and other written material.
  • Enters and retrieves data, using Food Service programs, on a personal computer and maintains disks with back-up copies.
  • Maintains systematic files, ledgers, stock index records, and inventory accountability procedures through posting receivers.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission to the Regional and Central Offices.
  • Maintains the security of the institution.
