About The Position

The Food Service Worker supports school nutrition services by preparing, portioning, and serving meals to students and staff. The role includes setting up and cleaning serving stations and kitchen areas, following food safety and sanitation procedures, and helping create a positive mealtime experience. The worker collaborates with a team in a school community to provide meals that support students’ health and learning.

The position is advertised with a Monday–Friday schedule and no nights or weekends, with family-friendly hours and work ending by mid-afternoon. The posting also says weekends, evenings, holidays, and summers are off. However, the qualifications section notes that the position may require extended hours, including evenings and/or weekends, and possible travel to other work sites. No experience is required; training is provided, though some experience is helpful. Pay is $15.40 per hour, with opportunities for growth.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Speak and read English.
• Positive attitude and team spirit.
• Reliability and attention to cleanliness.
• Willingness to learn and follow food safety rules.
• Enjoyment of working around children and school staff.
• Ability to lift and move 40 pounds or more.
• Ability to stand, walk, talk, and hear frequently; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, and controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to see in dimly lit areas such as walk-ins and storage areas.

Nice To Haves

• Food handling certification is preferred but not required.
• Some experience is helpful.
