About The Position

This position is responsible for informing customers of services available, assisting customers with service requests, and reporting service requests to the Support Center. The Food Service Worker communicates with the Coordinator and Diet Office on a daily basis or more often as required, reporting specific customer needs, expectations, and status. They must respond promptly to all types of communications, both oral and written.

Requirements

  • 2-3 weeks of on-the-job training.
  • Ability to prepare service line for meal service and service customers.
  • Ability to deliver routine food order, including food carts, to nursing units.
  • Ability to assemble patient nourishment.
  • Ability to requisition supplies.
  • Ability to clean and maintain areas as assigned.
  • Ability to easily follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate/respond to a phone.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare service lines for meal service and serve customers.
  • Prepare patient tray line for meal service and assemble trays as assigned, according to accuracy and time standards.
  • Deliver routine food orders, including food carts, to nursing units.
  • Assemble patient nourishments as ordered.
  • Requisition and store necessary supplies.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas, including conference rooms.
  • Collect and dispose of trash from areas, including non-patient areas, food waste, and recyclables. This may require operating the compactor.
  • Complete daily floor care as appropriate for hard surfaces.
  • Work in the dishroom.
  • Collect menus as assigned and deliver them to the office for processing.
  • Participate in educational programs, inservices, and department meetings as an active team member.
  • Follow sanitation and HACCP standards and maintain organization and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Participate in self-development by attending mandatory inservice and education programs appropriate to the goals and needs of the department.
  • Attend inservice programs on equipment use and operation.
  • Attend inservice programs on proper procedures for cleaning patient and non-patient areas.
  • Attend all mandatory inservice programs.
