This position is for a Food Service Worker in the Food & Nutrition Services Cafeteria department. The role involves exercising courtesy, setting up, serving, and cleaning food service areas, preparing orders, and maintaining sanitation standards. Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Exercising courtesy in contacts with patients, customers and department staff.
  • Setting up, serving and cleaning up food service area.
  • Preparing orders, such as soda fountain dishes, desserts, etc., as directed.
  • Maintaining prescribed standards of sanitation, housekeeping and safety in assigned work area.
  • Setting up food for serving, serving food according to prescribed manner, cleaning utensils and equipment before, during and after serving.
  • Checking completed tray before delivery to patients.
  • Performing limited food preparation or final processing of simple salads, desserts, vegetables, etc., by cutting up items of food, dishing out portions, wrapping, labeling and rotating food.
  • Setting up, maintaining and cleaning beverage containers including coffee, iced tea, hot chocolate, cream, juice and ice dispensers, and related equipment.
  • Setting up condiment areas, salad, dessert and hot food counters; maintaining adequate supply; and keeping area clean.
  • Storing condiments and left-overs in a sanitary manner.
  • Checking need for replacement of deleted or shortage of items and notifying proper personnel.
  • Washing and sanitizing dining room tables and chairs, cleaning ash trays and maintaining adequate supply of salt and pepper shakers.
  • Setting up patient trays.
  • Pulling and/or pushing food transporters as necessary in assigned work area.
  • Maintaining proper housekeeping, sanitation and safety standards in work area, including washing of table service implements, serving and preparation utensils, and food transporters.
  • Reporting defective equipment to the immediate supervisor.
  • Occasionally acting as fill-in cashier, handling cash and making change.
  • Performing other food service duties as required.
