About The Position

Reporting to the Coordinator and/or the Manager, Food Services, and with work direction from the Food Service Supervisor, and/or the Cook, the Food Service Worker carries out a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards. This Food Service Worker role is a retail position. The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

Requirements

  • Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Food Safe Certificate Level 1
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work
  • Ability to operate related equipment

Responsibilities

  • Portioning and serving meals
  • Assisting with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruit
  • Preparing coffee/tea and toast, portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads
  • Preparing and portioning diet items in accordance with nutritional plans
  • Measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree
  • Checking patient/resident meals/trays to ensure dietary accuracy
  • Stripping wagons/trays, washing dishes and pots
  • Cleaning food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges and storage areas
  • Wiping down tables and counter areas
  • Sweeping and damp mopping floors and removing garbage
  • Delivering wagons/trays to patient/resident units
  • Retrieving and storing food items
  • Replenishing food, beverage and paper supplies
  • Performing related clerical duties
  • May operate a cash register and related equipment, receive payments and provide change for items purchased
  • Answering customer queries
