About The Position

The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a Full Time Food Service Worker in the Detention Center. This position assists the supervisor with planning, coordination, and direct food preparation, serving, and distribution of meals in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations for the County Detention Center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Two years of experience in restaurant, institutional food service programs, or a related field.

  • Supervisory experience considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in directing and managing the day-to-day operations of food service programs in the Detention Center.
  • Assist in preparing employee schedules, assigning tasks, occasionally supervise the work of food service personnel and trustees; assists with training and operates all food service equipment.
  • Responsible for all food services including preparation, serving, sanitation, nutrition, and assuring compliance with food service standards and follows all department policies as well as state and federal laws; samples meals to determine palatability; regularly examines food for contamination.
  • Ensures kitchen area is in order and all equipment is functioning properly; notifies appropriate personnel should repairs be necessary.
  • Responsible for cleaning kitchen and food areas including washing dishes, mopping floors, washing walls, cleaning stove and vent with toxic chemical agents, disposing of trash, and sanitizing trashcans.
  • Assist with the development of menus, diet sheets, menu changes and works to ensure variety and proper nutritional content of meals; prepares food for all catered functions for special visitors and/or for special events.
  • Assists with maintaining inventories in the food storage room and walk-in areas; monitors USDA donated food and isolates away from other stored food items.
  • Helps maintain cost control for all meals served by eliminating waste and preparing for requirement only; assists with ordering food, and accounting for food usage and service expenditures; reconciles vendor invoices with deliveries received.
  • Helps to forecast program’s food supply, equipment, and personnel requirements; maintains quality and continuity of service; reviews Health Department safety and sanitation inspection results and makes corrections as directed.
  • Assist with the operations of the facility in the event of declared emergencies or disasters.
  • Receive inmate grievances concerning food, process those complaints and report complaints to the supervisor, helps with the development of methods to resolve complaints.
  • Review various logs for accuracy, accountability and compliance with policy.
  • Assist with the development of new recipes.
  • Assist with general office duties including answering the telephone, preparing correspondence, completing a variety of forms, typing, compiling cost data and various reports, preparing forecasts, and maintaining logs, records and files.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
