About The Position

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is seeking a Food Service Worker 1 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home (PSSH). This role allows you to support the daily meals that help residents stay healthy and comfortable. You will learn important food service skills and work with a team that takes pride in serving veterans and their spouses. This position is great for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and want to make a positive impact each day.

Nice To Haves

• Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
• Work experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food/cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
• Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department
• Cleaning, washing, peeling, slicing, and dicing food items
• Using kitchen equipment such as VCM, food processor, tabletop chopper, and garbage disposal
• Chopping, dicing, and slicing meats, poultry, fish, and cheeses
• Heating simple foods such as eggs, sandwiches, and hamburgers
• Preparing sandwiches, assembling salads, and serving portions, including desserts
• Plating and serving meals from hot food cart
• Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, work surfaces, and other kitchen items
• Transporting and assisting in loading and unloading food delivery trucks from kitchen and dining rooms
• Transporting food and supplies to and from freezers, refrigerators, and storeroom
• Selective menu, taking food orders, waitressing, and dining room service
• Food cart and dining room serving area set up
• Reading meal and tray tickets or tags
• Tray assembly and working on a tray line
• Operating commercial kitchen equipment

Responsibilities

• Prepare, portion, and plate food items, bag items, and move cases of food products to work area
• Prepare beverages for meals and nourishments, and load, transport, and unload food carts
• Set up serving carts, read diet information, assemble trays, and check each tray for accuracy
• Serve plates, transport carts, deliver trays to residents, and refill items such as toast, coffee, and condiments
• Clean dishes, dining areas, food preparation spaces, equipment, floors, and walls
• Record inventory use, temperatures, meal counts, and assist with special holiday food arrangements
