About The Position

JASA is seeking a Part-Time Food Service Technician to join their team at the HES Older Adult Center. This role is crucial in supporting JASA's mission by preparing, packaging, and serving nutritious meals to older adults. The position ensures participants receive quality meals in a safe and welcoming environment, while also contributing to the daily operations of the center. The Food Service Technician will be involved in meal preparation, maintaining food storage and inventory, adhering to food safety standards, operating kitchen equipment, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and organization of the center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Previous food service, kitchen, meal preparation, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a community, senior services, healthcare, or institutional food service setting preferred.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn program-specific software.
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and older adults.
  • Dependable, reliable, and team-oriented.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with food preparation, cleaning, and meal service.
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment.
  • Must be available to work extended hours or weekends during emergency operations, special events, or program needs as required.
  • New hires must obtain a Food Handler’s License within the first six months of employment if not already certified.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and prepare fresh food items for cooking and service.
  • Assist with meal preparation activities.
  • Package prepared meals for participant service.
  • Serve Congregate and/or Grab-and-Go meals to program participants.
  • Follow food handling, sanitation, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain proper food preparation procedures to ensure participant safety.
  • Receive, unpack, and properly store food deliveries and supplies.
  • Refrigerate food items promptly upon delivery.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary food storage areas.
  • Assist with monitoring and managing food inventory.
  • Ensure food and supplies are stored properly according to program procedures.
  • Clean kitchen, dining room, and bathroom areas as needed, particularly in the absence of maintenance staff.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Operate kitchen utensils and equipment, including mechanical kitchen equipment such as meat slicers.
  • Assist with organizing supplies and maintaining program areas.
  • Support volunteers and assist with related activities when needed.
  • Participate in Cooling Center Hours, Make-Up Days, and other emergency operations as required by City funders.
  • Assist with special program activities and operational needs.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
