About The Position

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a part-time Food Service Tech I. This role involves a combination of operational tasks related to assembling and serving patient trays, including proper assembly of trays, snacks, and bag meals. The position also includes serving items from cold or hot serving stations and cleaning dishes, trays, equipment, and kitchen facilities in accordance with health regulations and maintaining high personal hygiene standards.

Requirements

• No prior knowledge of foodservice operations.
• Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects (20 – 50+lbs).
• Prolonged standing and walking on various surfaces.
• Must be able to work when needed in various environmental conditions.
• Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Able to read tray tickets and posted job assignments.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in the basic knowledge of foodservice/food preparation and basic sanitation.
• Bilingual.
• Veteran or veteran spouse.

Responsibilities

• Appropriately accepts work direction from supervisors and requests clarification when needed in a respectful manner.
• Attendance/punctuality support performance at the expected level.
• Completes all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
• Pre-portion food accurately using scales, appropriate serving utensils and the correct dish or insert.
• Properly tare a scale to ensure accuracy when pre-portioning items.
• Clean, sanitize and store all pots and pans allowing them to air dry according to the VDH and Department guidelines.
• Assists in cleaning and sanitizing dish room when trays are completed.
